Sonya Nimri
Sonya Nimri, Artist-in-Residence at The UCLA Family Commons, derives her inspiration from a love of working with people and a knack for transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. She has written two books, Beadalicious and Just for the Frill of It, filled with original ideas on how to turn overlooked items into sought-after treasure. Sonya is a regular contributor to arts and crafts books and magazines, and she has appeared as a regular guest on a variety of television shows. Sonya lives with her husband and 1-year-old son in a little house in Venice, surrounded by friends and blooming orchids. She loves drinking French tea, pruning her dahlias, and playing Connect Four with her husband on their porch. For fun away from home, Sonya likes to ride her beach cruiser along the strand in Venice and go to Abbott-Kinney for gelato. Sonya knows that doughnuts are not a health food, but she’s at peace with the fact that she really likes them – especially old-fashioned plain. She’s hoping to get back to yoga soon, which she used to do 2-3 times a week, but hasn’t fit back into her schedule since her son was born.
